Alice Kemunto Mayaka is a distinguished Kenyan with extensive experience in both public and private sectors. She is currently serving as a Member of the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) where she chairs the subcommittee on Consultation, Cooperation, Coordination, Human Resource and Capacity Development. In public service she has received accolades during her career receiving honors from H.E. Mwai Kibaki the third President of the republic of Kenya namely; Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) and later Chief of the Burning Spear (CBS).
During her time in public service she served in various capacities, culminating in her appointment as Permanent Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of State for National Heritage (MSNH) under the office of the Vice President, prior to her appointment as PS, she served as a curriculum Developer at Kenya Institute of Education (now Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development) and later as Deputy Director human resource development at the Directorate of Personal Management office of the President. In her tenure as PS she coordinated an inter-ministerial task force in a nation-wide survey which developed criteria and modalities for identifying and honoring Kenya’s heroes and heroines which are still in use today. Some of the achievements in her ministry was the establishment of Murumbi gallery which opened to the public in December 2006. It was during her time as a PS at the newly created MSNH, the ministry was rated second best among all ministries in the annual performance contract evaluation.
Upon her retirement as PS, she was appointed as Vice Chairperson of Kisii University College and later continued to serve as a Member in the same institution when it became a full-fledged University. On completion of her term as Member of Kisii Univerity she was appointed Member of the first Council of the University of Eldoret. While serving as Member of University Council, she was honored with appointment as an Independent Director on the board of Total Kenya Limited where she served for two terms.
Mrs. Mayaka an alumnus of Butere Girls and the Highlands School (now Moi Girls High School, Eldoret), proceeded to the University of Nairobi and obtained a bachelor of Education (Science) degree. Later she obtained a postgraduate Diploma in curriculum Development from Kenyatta University before going on to obtain a Master of Science (Human Resource Development) from the University of Manchester, UK. In addition, she gained valuable knowledge from short training programs, namely: Practice of Science Education, Hiroshima University and JICA, leadership, by UNIFEM in Stockholm Sweden; among others.
She is a member of National Board of Trustees of Kenya Girl Guides Association (KGGA) and a full member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
